No work experience? No problem. Learn how to write a strong student CV using coursework, clubs, and transferable skills.

The 'No Experience' Myth

What to Include When You Have No Work Experience

🎓

Coursework & Thesis

Relevant courses, major projects, and your thesis (if applicable). Treat each like a job: what was the goal, what did you do, what was the outcome?

🏛️

University Clubs & Societies

Committee roles, leadership positions, organizing events. These demonstrate teamwork, communication, and initiative.

🌍

Volunteering

NGO work, community projects, school tutoring. Even short-term volunteering shows character and transferable skills.

💻

Personal Projects

Apps you built, papers you wrote, designs you created, YouTube channels, GitHub repos. Self-initiated projects show motivation.

📜

Online Courses & Certifications

Google, Coursera, Microsoft, HubSpot, AWS — certifications show continuous learning and real commitment to a skill.

🏆

Competitions & Hackathons

Case competitions, coding challenges, datathons. Participation alone is worth listing; awards are a major differentiator.

Student CV Structure

Unlike experienced candidates, students should put Education first.

3Education ↑ (place first!)University, degree, graduation date, GPA (if 3.0+)

5Work / Internship ExperienceEven part-time jobs show work ethic
6Activities & VolunteeringClubs, leadership roles, community work
7Skills & CertificationsTechnical tools, languages, online courses

GPA: Include It or Not?

Include your GPA if it's 3.0 / 4.0 or above (or equivalent in your grading system). If it's lower, leave it out — silence is better than a red flag. Your university's name and your projects will do more for you than a low GPA.
